4 killed in truck-autorickshaw collision in Mahadevpur

4 people, including the auto driver, were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and an autorickshaw in Naogaon’s Mahadevpur.

The accident took place on the Naogaon-Rajshahi highway in the Hat Chakgouri area of the upazila on Monday afternoon. 4 people died on the spot.

Another person was injured in this incident. He was rescued and admitted to Naogaon Sadar Hospital.

Three of the dead have been identified. They are – Pappu Sardar (50) of Chakpathuria village of Sadar Upazila, Nazmul Islam (22) son of Abdus Chalam of Khalishakuri Sardarpara village of Sirajganj Sadar Upazila and Tanvir Ahammen Chowdhury (24) son of Abdul Jabbar of Satikabari village of the same upazila. Police are trying to identify the other person.

Shafiul Islam, Senior Station Officer of Naogaon District Fire Service, quoting locals, said that when an auto-rickshaw headed to Naogaon reached the spot with passengers, it collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction. Four people including the driver of the CNG-powered autorickshaw were killed on the spot.

He further said that we quickly rescued the injured on the spot after receiving the news. One passenger was rescued and admitted to Sadar Hospital.

The fire service official said that the accident caused the auto-rickshaw to twist due to the collision with the truck.

Mahadevpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mozaffar Hossain said that four bodies were recovered from the scene and sent to Naogaon Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. The killer truck has been impounded.

He also said that national identity cards were found with 3 of the victims. The work of verifying whether their name and address is correct as per the identity card is going on. Apart from this, an attempt is being made to identify the identity of the other person.
