A young man named Zainul Mia (40) of Sriramsi Chand Bowali village of Mirpur Union of Upazila has been accused of raping a fourth class madrasa student (10) in Jagannathpur of Sunamganj.

In this incident, the girl’s mother filed a complaint at Jagannathpur police station on Saturday (June 4) evening. Police are still trying to nab the accused.

According to police and local sources, the madrasa student’s maternal grandmother’s house is in Sriramsi in the same area. On Thursday evening, a young man named Zainul, on his way home from his grandmother’s house after taking a towel from his mother’s house, took him to a secluded place on the bank of a pond and raped him. He feared that he would be killed if he told anyone about it. After going home, the girl burst into tears and informed her mother. When he was brought to Jagannathpur Upazila Health Complex at night, the doctor on duty sent him to One Stop Crisis Center OCC of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. On receiving the information, the police visited the spot.

Later Sunamganj Assistant Superintendent of Police Jagannathpur Circle Subhashish Dhar met the abused girl and inquired about treatment.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Jagannathpur Circle Subhashish Dhar of Sunamganj said that the girl’s mother has lodged a complaint with the police station about the rape and we are continuing the operation to arrest the accused.
