Inauguration of a two-day departmental literature fair in Sylhet

A two-day Sylhet Divisional Literary Fair has been inaugurated with the aim of presenting the creations of writers at the grassroots level of Sylhet Division at the national level. The Sylhet Divisional Commissioner’s office was in overall management of the event in coordination with Bangla Academy and under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture.
On Saturday (June 3) at 10:30 in the morning, Sylhet’s Kabi Nazrul Auditorium was attended as the chief guest and officially inaugurated the Sylhet Divisional Literary Fair by KM Khalid MP, State Minister of the Ministry of Culture. Secretary of the Ministry of Culture Khalil Ahmad was present as a special guest in the event.
Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Dr. Director General of Bangla Academy Muhammad Nurul Huda was present as the main speaker in the departmental literature fair held under the chairmanship of Muhammad Mosharraf Hossain. Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Devjit Singh was also present as a special guest.
Speaking as the chief guest, State Minister for Culture Khalid said, Honorable Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, during the inauguration of the Amar Ekushey Book Fair on 15th February 2022, has given instructions to organize literary conferences in the divisional cities and districts in order to highlight the literary works of poets and writers at the grassroots level at the national level. This literary fair has been held under the patronage of the Ministry of Light and Culture Affairs and the initiative of the district administration in collaboration with Bangla Academy.
He also said, today we have come to your area to find out about your arts, literature and cultural practices, to stand by you. We want your art to connect with mainstream art. So today’s literary gathering is very important from many aspects. In the meantime, we have established the Bangladesh Artist Welfare Trust at the initiative of the Honorable Prime Minister Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina to stand by the poets-literary-artists. In the 2nd phase of the program, there was a reading and discussion of essays under the chairmanship of Director General of Bangla Academy, Muhammad Nurul Huda.
Sylhet Department of Literature and Culture presented the article by Sylhet International University Dean of Faculty of Humanities Prof. Dr. Abul Fateh Fattah. Eminent poet and researcher discussed the article. Mostak Ahmad Deen and prominent folk culture researcher and essayist Sumankumar Das then held a wonderful cultural program at 6 pm with the performance of the artists of Sylhet Division.
