BSF shoots beef smugglers at Phulbari border

A Bangladeshi youth named Hafizur Rahman was seriously injured in the firing by BSF of the country’s border guarding force while smuggling beef from India at Phulbari border in Kurigram. The incident took place on the border of Kutichandrakhana Nakharjan of Sadar Union of the upazila around 6:30 am on Wednesday.
Local sources said that the injured Hafizur was rescued and admitted to a clinic in Rangpur by his companions.
Altaf Hossain, who lives on the border, said that some smugglers were smuggling packaged beef from India to Bangladesh from sub-pillar number 6 of international pillar number 940 of Nakharjan border in Kutichandrakhana village of upazila. At that time the BSF members patrolling India’s Chhabri camp chased them. At one point Hafizur was injured in BSF firing but his three companions managed to escape. Later they rescued Hafizur and took him to the hospital.
Kashipur Company Commander under Lalmonirhat Battalion of BGB Subedar Ashraf Ali admitted the truth of the incident and said that border patrol has been strengthened. The injured person is being searched.
