The police have arrested eight members of the inter-district thief gang from Chandpur and Sylhet, including two from Habiganj. At that time, three stolen autorickshaws and a private car used in the theft were seized.

The arrested gang members are Anhar Ali (35), son of Naeem Ullah of Balaganj police station of Sylhet district, Moghala Bazar police station of Sylhet city. Billal Ahmed (34), son of Shafiqur Rahman, Billal Hossain (24), son of Sonapar Ali of Biswanath police station of Sylhet district, son of deceased Ala Uddin Khan of Bahula village of Habiganj suburb. Nazrul Khan (26), Sohan Mia (24) son of Abdul Malek of Bahubal Police Station of the same district, Shimul Ahmed (24) son of Abdul Salam of Jaintapur Police Station of Sylhet District, Abul Bachit (40) son of deceased Towaj Ullah of Golapganj Police Station of the same district and Shafiqur of Gwaighat Police Station. Rahman’s son Alamgir Ahmed (26).

According to the police, on the night of May 26, Jabbar Ali Munshi from the house of Dakshin Rayoch area of Hajiganj upazila. Autorickshaw of Sharif Hossain (27) was stolen. Sharif learns that two more autorickshaws were stolen on the same night. Sharif filed a case in Hajiganj police station on May 28. After the case, a smart team led by the OC of Hajiganj police station arrested Anhar Ali, a member of the thief gang with the help of information technology, along with an autorickshaw from Comilla Cantonment Crossroads area.

Superintendent of Police Milan Mahmud said that after the interrogation of the arrested Anhar Ali, the location of the thief gang and all the plans of the theft were known. On May 30, Hajiganj Thana Police conducted an operation with the help of Sylhet Metropolitan Moghlabazar Thana Police along with Anhar Ali and arrested the remaining seven people. Among the arrested accused. 10 cases pending against Nazrul Khan. Apart from this, two more members of the gang Sajlu Mia and Ushar Ali are absconding. Efforts are on to arrest them.
