Ramu Rubber Garden: Bangabandhu’s memorial couch is an additional attraction for millions of tourists

February 11, 1975. That day was Tuesday. Coming to Cox’s Bazar by plane, Bangabandhu first planted marigolds on the beach. He came directly from Cox’s Bazar to Ramu. We made various arrangements to welcome him. But he did not get out of the car. Didn’t receive a reception. But we sprinkled flowers on his car.’ The organizer of the Liberation War, Golam Kabir, member, commemorated Bangabandhu’s visit to Ramu in this way. That sofa is preserved in Ramu Rubber Garden. On Friday (May 27) Ramu went to Bagan Rest House in Raba and found that the sofa on which Bangabandhu was sitting was kept in a corner of the drawing room. The chair has been preserved by making a glass box. Placed just above the box, is a bound documentary with photographs of Bangabandhu’s visit to rubber plantations. Above it is a photo of Bangabandhu in front of a rubber tree. Nandi Gopal Roy, manager of Ramu Rubber Garden, said, ‘Bangabandhu came to Ramu Rubber Garden twice in 1970 and 1975. That is why he has many memories in this garden and rest house.’ The manager of Ramu Rubber Garden said that local freedom fighter Golam Kabir cooperated in this matter. Ramu Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Fahmida Mustafa said, ‘The sofa was displayed in Ramu’s special event to present Bangabandhu to the new generation.’
