In Kurigram’s Phulbari, two teenagers were forcibly raped at gunpoint. Police has arrested the accused Chhatra League leader in this incident.

He was arrested from Kalirhat area of the defunct enclave of the upazila on Monday evening.

Chhatra League leader Jayant Kumar Mohant (30) is the vice-president of the Phulbari Sadar Union Chhatra League of Upazila and is the son of deceased Devendranath Mohant of Madhya Panimach Kuti village. Phulbari police station has confirmed that there are several cases against him for drug dealing, theft and fighting.

Fazlur Rahman, OC of Phulbari police station, said that Shamsul Haque, the grandfather of a victim, filed a case as a plaintiff on Monday afternoon and was immediately arrested.

According to the complaint, on Sunday afternoon at his home in Panimachkuti village in the upazila, Jayant called two teenagers and raped them at gunpoint. The two teenagers who were tortured are currently undergoing treatment at Phulbari Upazila Health Complex. They are both students of class 8.

The plaintiff in the case said that around eleven o’clock in the morning on Sunday, Jayant called my grandson and called him at his tea shop. After receiving the call, my grandson and four friends went to Jayante’s tea shop in the upazila. After having tea and breakfast there, Jayant took them in an auto-rickshaw and took them to his home area. There three people sat in the grocery store next to the house and entered the house with my grandson talking about secret advice. Going inside the house, Jayant forced me to kill my grandson by stabbing him with a knife and beating him with a stick.

He also said that when he got sick, he was locked in the next room. Meanwhile, after a long time passed, three friends of my grandson who were waiting in the shop went to the door of Jayant’s house and started knocking. Then Jayant opened the door and dragged one of the three by the collar of his shirt and took him inside the house and raped him in the same way. The other two fled in fear.

Accused Chhatra League leader Jayant Kumar Mohant denied the allegations and said, I am being framed as a conspiracy.

Fulbari Upazila Chhatra League President Taukir Hasan Tamal said that the organization will not take responsibility for anyone’s personal crime. In this incident, he has been dismissed from the Chhatra League.
