Sylhet Bureau/

Najma Rahman of Sylhet has been elected as the Mayor of Camden Council, UK.

He officially assumed this responsibility on Thursday. Before that, he was the deputy mayor of the council. He will serve as mayor for the next one year. Najma Rahman is the wife of Azadur Rahman Azad, four-time councilor of Sylhet City Corporation and joint general secretary of Awami League.

Nazma Rahman, a nutritionist by profession, was elected as a councilor for the second time as a Labor Party candidate from the Westhamstead area in the local government elections held on May 5 last year. Earlier in 2018, he was elected councilor for the first time from the same party.

Nazma Rahman, a daughter of Sylhet, was elected as the mayor after being elected as a councilor for the second time in a row from the West Hampstead area in the local elections of Britain’s Camden Council. Nazma Rahman has been involved in the politics of the Labor Party in Britain for a long time. He is the general secretary of the Kilburn and West Hamstead branch of the Labor Party. Bangabandhu’s granddaughter Rezwana Siddique Tulip was elected MP from this seat in the British Parliament.

The Bengali community considers this success of Nazma Rahman as a rare success of another Bangladeshi woman in the mainstream politics of Britain.
