BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the Awami authoritarian government has now become reckless in the question of its existence. Therefore, they are adopting a cruel way to keep the people of the country in fear by oppressing the leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated organizations in various ways.

Fakhrul said these things in a statement on Thursday (May 18).

He made this statement in the media condemning and protesting the arrest of the leaders and activists of organizations including the Union BNP in Jamalpur, Sherpur and Netrakona districts ahead of the district assembly.

Fakhrul said, with the aim of disrupting the district assembly, Rezaul Karim Bulbul, president of BNP No. 9 Ghosherpara Union of Melandah Upazila of Jamalpur, organizational secretary Golam Kibria, general secretary of Phulkocha Union No. 8 Mamunur Rashid, joint convener of Kulia Union BNP No. 2 Belal, former student leaders and Sherpur District BNP Student Affairs Secretary. Arrest of Kamal Hossain without warrant and co-organizing secretary of Netrokona district Jubo Dal Syed Tofail Mir and member secretary of Municipal Volunteers Party Rashedul Islam Jewel in absentee case, along with extensive police search at the houses of leaders and activists for the purpose of arrest, filing of absentee case against 32 leaders and activists in Sherpur district is part of that cruelty.

Earlier, 11 activists were arrested in Sherpur on the night before the preparatory meeting of the district assembly. The divisive government is committing such misdeeds to thwart the assembly to be held in those districts.
