The High Court has issued a ruling seeking to know why the authorities’ inaction in providing Hindu women’s right to divorce, registration of marriage, management, illegitimacy, inheritance in property should not be declared invalid.
The High Court bench consisting of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Mohammad Mahbub ul Islam gave this order on Sunday after hearing the writ petition filed by nine organizations to implement women’s rights. Law Ministry Secretary and concerned parties have been asked to respond to this rule within the next four weeks.
Lawyer ZI Khan Panna, Syeda Nasreen, SM Rezaul Karim, Md. heard on behalf of the writ in the court. Shahinuzzaman and Tamanna.
Earlier, 9 organizations including human rights organization Ain O Salish Kendra, BLAST filed a writ in the High Court on the question of guaranteeing the legal rights of Hindu women. The writ also sought directions to formulate a policy to remove the inconsistencies in the Hindu Marriage Act.
