Sylhet district administration has held an emergency meeting to deal with the disaster of super cyclone Mokha. All concerned have been instructed to be ready for the meeting.

The meeting of disaster management committee was held in Sylhet district administration conference room on Sunday (May 14) morning. It was chaired by the Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet. Mujibur Rahman.

In the meeting, the Upazila Executive Officers have been instructed to move the people living in dangerous places at the foot of hills and hills and river banks to safe places in all the upazilas of the district and to conduct miking with the aim of creating awareness. Besides, all upazila administrations have been instructed to keep shelters ready.

Meanwhile, a total of 13 lakhs of GR cash at the rate of 1 lakh and 163 metric tons of GR rice has been allocated at the municipal and upazila levels in 13 upazilas to deal with possible disaster situations. Upazila Nirbahi Officers have been advised to distribute essential food among those staying in disaster shelters. For each upazila, medical teams, clean drinking water and water purification tablets, BGB, police, fire service and civil defense have been advised to make necessary preparations for conducting relief operations and rescue operations.

In the emergency meeting of District Disaster Management Committee, Superintendent of Police Abdullah Al Mamun of Sylhet, representative of Civil Surgeon, representative of SMP, captain of 48-BGB, executive engineer, directorate of public health engineering, deputy director, fire service and civil defense, upazila chairman and officials of government and private departments were present.

Heavy (44-48 mm) to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in Chittagong, Sylhet and Barisal divisions under the influence of super cyclone ‘Mokha’. Heavy rains are likely to cause landslides at the foothills and river banks.
