Due to the impact of very strong cyclone Moka, the sea is very rough in the area near the cyclone center. The cyclone is located 935 km south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar sea port. As a result of this, four local warning signals have been shown in four sea ports of the country.

Besides, all the fishing boats and trawlers stationed in the Bay of Bengal have been asked to go to safe shelter as soon as possible. This information has been informed in the latest special notification number 11 of the Meteorological Department on Friday. A super cyclone Moka may then move north-northwestward. Moka may land between Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar and Myanmar’s Kayakpur on Sunday afternoon. At this time the speed can be 150 to 160 km per hour. The maximum speed can be 175 km per hour.

According to the notification, very strong cyclone Moka, which is located in the central Bay of Bengal and adjacent southeast Bay of Bengal, is moving north-northeastward and is staying in the east central Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas. It was located 1,500 km south-southwest of Chittagong seaport, 935 km south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar seaport, 965 km south-southwest of Mongla seaport and 930 km south-southwest of Payra seaport at 12 noon on Friday. It may move further north-northeast and intensify.

Maximum sustained wind speed is 130 km/h within 74 km of the cyclone center increasing to 150 km/h in gust or gale form. The sea is very rough in the vicinity of the super cyclone center.

Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports have been asked to lower the remote warning signal number two and display local warning signal number four instead. All fishing boats and trawlers in North Bay of Bengal are asked to move to safe harbor as soon as possible.

Earlier on Friday morning, the strong cyclone ‘Moka’ which formed in the Bay of Bengal turned into a very strong cyclone. This cyclone, located in the south-east Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas, is approaching Cox’s Bazar with strength. Heavy rain started in Cox’s Bazar around 3:30. In this situation, the district administration has declared all the hotels, motels and resorts of Saint Martin island as shelters. At the same time, residents of various districts including tourists have already been evacuated from St. Martin. Local islanders have been asked to take shelter in hotels, motels and resorts.

Clouds were seen in the skies over Saint Martin Island since 10am on Friday due to a very strong cyclone. The wind has started. In the morning, about five hundred people left Saint Martin on wooden trawlers from the island.

According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, the cyclone is likely to hit the coast of Cox’s Bazar on Sunday. Teknaf, St Martin, Maheshkhali and Qutubdia may be affected. In particular, almost the entire island of St. Martin can be submerged during high tides. The risk is highest as there is no dam around it and there is a lot of infrastructure.
