Police must be informed 24 hours in advance to hold a ‘meeting’ for Sisik elections

A candidate for the upcoming city corporation elections or a political party on his behalf should inform the police 24 hours in advance if he wants to hold street meetings or house meetings. No meeting can be held except road meeting or home meeting. Returning Officers have recently been instructed to inform the candidates about this.

A political party should inform the police 24 hours in advance if it wants to hold a road meeting or a house meeting. It has been said that no candidate or any political party on his behalf, any other person, organization or organization can hold any public meeting or procession except road meeting and house meeting.

If you want to hold road meetings and house meetings, you should inform the local police authority about the place and time of the proposed meeting at least 24 (twenty four) hours before. So that the police authorities can take necessary measures to maintain traffic and law and order at that place.

Apart from this, no street meeting or any stage for the purpose shall be made on any such road which may cause disturbance to the movement of people. No road meeting or house meeting or other campaign event of the opponent or obstructing or causing any disturbance.

Election campaign has not started yet. In this case, the candidates cannot campaign with the allocation of symbols.

According to the EC notification schedule, the last date for submission of nomination papers for Sylhet city election is 23rd May, selection is on 25th May. The deadline for filing appeals with the Appellate Authority is May 28. And the last date for appeal by the Appellate Authority is May 31. Deadline for withdrawal is June 1, symbol allocation is June 2 and voting is June 21. Campaigning for these two city polls can be done from June 2.

Failure to comply with electoral conduct rules can result in jail, fines and even cancellation of candidature. The Election Commission has already warned the candidates and related political parties for the Gazipur City polls.
