A pedestrian named Kala Mia (60) was killed in a bus accident in Shaestaganj upazila. The accident took place on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Nasratpur area of Nurpur Union of the upazila at around 12 noon on Wednesday (May 3). The deceased was a resident of Kala Mia Nasratpur village. He is a retired officer of Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).

Shaistaganj police station (OC) Nazmul Haque Kamal said Kala Mia was walking on the side of the highway. He died on the spot when a Shyamoli Paribahan bus from Sylhet to Dhaka ran over him.

Meanwhile, local people blocked the highway after the accident. Traffic was stopped for about an hour. As a result hundreds of vehicles were stuck on both sides of the road.

OC Nazmul said that after the police arrested the bus of Shyamoli Paribahan, the agitated crowd withdrew the blockade after they assured the driver that the driver would be brought under the law. Later traffic returned to normal.
