BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that despite repeated appeals to the ruling government to withdraw from illegal activities, the government is not paying attention to the question of its own existence. On the contrary, the government has become reckless.
He made this complaint in a statement sent to the media on Tuesday (May 2).
Addressing the government, he said, a free country cannot be ruled illegally for a long time by blocking democracy. There is still time for the government to realize this. The fascist behavior of the government, suffering from an image crisis due to immoral activities and gross misrule, is further alienating them. The sooner the government is able to realize this fact, the better for them.
The BNP Secretary General said that the government disregarded the laws and judicial system of the country and detained the leaders and activists of the opposition parties including BNP and its affiliates and affiliated organizations, who were sentenced to prison terms, denied bail and sent them to prison without releasing them on time. After that, some people get released on bail, but they show arrests in new cases from the prison gate and arrest them again and take them to jail.
He said that today BNP National Executive Committee Member and Sirajganj District BNP General Secretary Saidur Rahman Bachchu along with 6 leaders and activists of Sirajganj BNP and its organs and affiliated organizations were canceled and sent to jail. Azizur Rahman Musabbi, general secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan North Jatiyatabadi Swachchasevak Dal, who was imprisoned yesterday (Monday), was released from Keraniganj jail after being released on bail, he was arrested again from the prison gate. Apart from this, the Khulna Mahanagar Sramik Dal rally was attacked by the police and member secretary of the Mahanagar Sramik Dal, Shafiqul Islam Shafi, was arrested. These incidents are a continuous part of the government’s ongoing misrule.
In the statement, Mirza Fakhrul demanded the withdrawal of the case filed against these leaders and their immediate unconditional release.
