Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said about the discussion with BNP on the caretaker government, ‘with whom will I discuss? One is a convicted convict, then the murderer of my parents and siblings, a war criminal. Still, I showed a lot of generosity in the interest of the country, in the interest of the country’s democracy. But now there is nothing to talk with them. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is visiting the United States, said these things in an interview given to the Bengali section of Voice of America.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, ‘They have killed 21 thousand of my leaders and activists, the families of those people are suffering after burning people to death. We have provided medical treatment to all those who survived the burn. When I see the suffering of burnt people, I don’t want to sit with them (BNP). I feel like I can smell burnt people when I sit with them.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also said, ‘I have discussed with BNP repeatedly. But actually BNP is a political party created by a military ruler. Who killed my father, mother, brother, sister in 1975. A president was assassinated and came to power through the back door. An army chief declared himself president and sat on the chair. Drama in the name of yes-no vote, there was no no, all yes votes were done. Later the President was elected. After that, he created a political party and stayed in power. Everyone should remember this, the BNP is the political party that has been created by taking arms and sitting in power.
In a video interview given to Voice of America, Shatrupa Baruya, the Prime Minister said, ‘The election that BNP conducted in 1989 after its creation, they created an example of complete vote rigging. Yes-No vote, Presidential vote and National Assembly vote. This is the culture that started our vote rigging, but to bring BNP to power. The tragic history of our country’s democracy. Because, I would say that the military rulers have seized power. All the power of the people was confined in the cantonment.
What reformative steps has the government taken to withdraw the sanctions imposed by the US on RAB? In response to Voice of America’s question, the Prime Minister said, ‘This RAB was created on the advice of America to improve the law and order situation including elimination of terrorism. Everything from RAB training is done by America. When a democratic government comes to power, we run everything properly. I don’t understand why America imposed this ban on RAB. If any member of RAB commits a crime, he is tried. If someone from RAB is involved in a crime, we immediately bring him under the law. Which no other country has, not even America. This rule of law is in our country.
The Prime Minister said, “The son-in-law of one of our State Minister’s daughters was involved in a crime while being a member of RAB. He was immediately brought under the law. A case has been filed against him, he has also been punished. This is how we see it. RAB has a great role in fighting terrorism and militancy. But, the sudden US sanctions on RAB seem to have emboldened the militants again. This is the reality.
The Prime Minister said, ‘The rule of law is in force in our country. We see everything in the eyes of the law. We also see that no one is punished for no crime.
