Two people, including a police constable, were arrested during a RAB robbery in Rajshahi’s Godagari. RAB arrested them from Chapal area of the upazila on Saturday night. A case has been filed in Godagari police station.

Police constable Abu Hena Mustafa Kamal and his associate Rabbani have been sent to jail through the court.

Constable Mustafa Kamal is working at Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Damkura Police Station. He is the son of Taherul Islam of Alinagar village of Gomstapur upazila of Chapainawabganj. The other accused Rabbani is the son of Aminul Islam of Bhatapara of Rajpara police station in the metropolis.

Kamrul Islam, OC of Godagari police station, said that Mustafa Kamal and Rabbani were searching a young man named Bulbul Ahmed in Chapal area around 8:30 pm on Saturday. At that time they snatched Bulbul’s mobile phone and cash. When the young man asked for their identity, Mustafa Kamal claimed to be a RAB member. As per his demand, Mustafa Kamal and Rabbani started beating him when he wanted to see his identity card. When Bulbul screamed, the people around came and arrested the two people and informed RAB and police.

OC Kamrul also said that when police and RAB members went to the spot, Mustafa Kamal identified himself as a constable of RMP. At that time they were arrested and taken to RAB-5 headquarters. After the interrogation, they were handed over to the police station at night.

Lieutenant Colonel Riaz Shahriar, the captain of RAB-5 Rajshahi, said that Mustafa Kamal and Rabbani admitted to the robbery during the initial interrogation. A case has been registered in their name on charges of impersonation and extortion by RAB.

In this regard, RMP spokesperson and Additional Deputy Commissioner Rafiqul Alam said that a robbery case has been registered in the name of Constable Mustafa Kamal. If the allegations are true, departmental action will be taken against him.
