CEC instructs to be careful in selection of nomination papers
Dhaka/
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has instructed the returning officers to be more careful in selecting the nomination papers. He gave this order at a function organized on the occasion of the training program for five city election returning and assistant returning officers on Monday.
According to the schedule announced by the EC, voting will be held in Gazipur City Corporation on May 25. After that, voting will be held in Khulna and Barisal cities on June 12 and Rajshahi and Sylhet cities on June 21.
Speaking to reporters after the program at the Election Training Institute at Agargaon in the capital, the CEC said that if the returning officers carefully and accurately cancel the nomination papers, it would be helpful for the EC. As shown in past experience, appeals against acceptance and cancellation of nominations are made to the EC. Proper functioning of Returning Officers facilitates decision in favor of EC in appeals.
Addressing the returning officers, the CEC said that the Election Commission is not the final authority in accepting and canceling the nomination papers. The decision of the EC was again appealed to the High Court. So being more accurate and pure in these activities is positive for everyone. Therefore Returning Officers and Assistant Returning Officers will be specially trained on how to cancel nominations for any reason and how to write the order.
