Gang-raped a woman by taking her to a tea garden, arrested 2

A 23-year-old woman was taken to a tea garden in Srimangal and gang-raped by a group of 5 people, including a CNG driver, after promising to reach her home in Kulaura from Goalabazar in Osmaninagar, Sylhet. After receiving the news of the incident, the Srimangal Thana Police conducted an immediate operation and arrested two people including the CNG driver.

The arrested rapists are CNG driver Salim (33) son of Matleb Mia of Matirgaon village in Osmaninagar and Hriday Nunia (20) son of Ram Gabin of Srimangal Maijdihi tea garden. In the preliminary interrogation of the police, they confessed to the rape. In this incident, the rape victim filed a gang rape case at Srimangal police station. The incident took place on the night of Friday, April 14.

On Saturday (April 15), when the two arrested rapists were brought to the Moulvibazar learned court, the accused Hriday Nunia gave a confessional statement in the learned court under Section 164 of the Criminal Code.

According to Srimangal Police Station, after Iftar on April 14, a 23-year-old woman was waiting for a car to return to her home in Kulaura, Moulvibazar, from Goalabazar, Osmaninagar, Sylhet district. The CNG driver Salim took him to the CNG, promising to drop him on the Kulaura bus. Later, Salim took the woman to Moulvibazar and brought her to Srimangal Bairabazar around 8:30 pm without taking her to Kulaura bus. According to Selim, his 4 associates who were already waiting in Bhairabazar took the woman to Maizdihi tea garden. There, Salim and 5 others gang-raped the woman in turn from 9:00 pm to 10:30 pm. When this news reached Srimangal police station, a police team led by Inspector (Operation) AK, M Fazlul Haque on the orders of officer in-charge Jahangir Hossain Sardar managed to arrest CNG driver Salim and another rapist.
