Country and nation facing dire situation: Mirza Fakhrul
Online Desk/
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, nothing is good. The country and the nation are facing a dire situation. Society today is completely divided. The state is being pushed to fail.
He said that the Awami League government has destroyed the democratic institutions for which I fought the liberation war. Today, if this terrible monster is not stopped, the state structure will collapse. Nation and freedom will be destroyed.
He made this comment at an Iftar function of Federal Union of Journalists-BFUJ (one group) and Dhaka Journalists Union-DEU (one group) at the National Press Club on Sunday.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam said, today there is no freedom of media. This disorganized government has created an unprecedented situation in the media. Now there is no need for censorship, everyone has to self-censor. Everyone thinks that it can be written or not, and whether to go to the Digital Security Act or not.
He said, there are many journalists who are still hanging on the Digital Security Act. Now I went to jail and saw that many young and even immature boys have been arrested under the Digital Security Act and are in jail.
Fakhrul commented that the country’s mass media is affected by the threat of fascism and said that when I look at the newspapers and magazines and listen to the channels, then it seems that the threat of fascism has taken hold here as well. When fascism is successful in a state, a reign of terror, a reign of terror is established in the entire society.
He said, now there is such a situation that there is no opportunity to fight unitedly. There has been division in the press club, division has been created among journalists. They have suppressed the basic fact that a democratic society or a democratic state needs a free media. I cannot even imagine the language that the Prime Minister of this divided government speaks while standing in the National Parliament. A prime minister of a civilized country cannot talk like this.
Calling the situation of the country as ‘terrible’, the Secretary General of BNP urged journalists and professionals to speak out against it.
He said, acting chairman of BNP Tariq Rahman is showing a new dream to the nation. This government is not sparing scholars. They have been kept in jail for months and years. Even killing has been done. More than 600 activists including BNP leader Chowdhury Alam have gone missing. Thousands of activists have been extrajudicially killed. False cases have been filed against more than 35 lakh activists. Our only way to get rid of all this is to force this government to resign and form a people’s government and a new parliament. Let’s move forward in the next day’s movement and struggle with steel-solid unity. The government that has destroyed everything in the country must be removed.
Under the chairmanship of BFU President M Abdullah and moderated by Dhaka Journalist Union General Secretary Shahidul Islam, Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Ehsanul Mahbub Zobair, BFU General Secretary Nurul Amin Rokon, Dhaka Journalist Union President Quader Gani Chowdhury and others spoke.
Later, BNP Secretary General, Journalist Ruhul Amin Gazi, Abdul Hai Shikder, MA Aziz, Kamal Uddin Sabuj, Syed Abdal Ahmed, Ilyas Khan and other journalist leaders had Iftar.
