Gunmen attacked a water park in central Mexico on Saturday, killing seven people, local authorities said, according to a report by Indian media outlet NDTV on Sunday (April 16). Six adults and another child were among the dead. This caused panic among those present in the park.
The report also said that the attack and loss of life took place in the city of Cortazar in central Mexico. After the attack, police arrived at the scene and found three dead women, three dead men and a seven-year-old child dead, according to a statement from Cortazar’s city hall. Besides, another person was seriously injured in the attack.
The gunmen arrived at the La Palma swimming resort at 4:30pm local time on Saturday to “carry out the attack,” the statement said. The attackers opened fire directly at a group of people. He then took the security camera at the scene before fleeing, authorities said.
TV Azteca, one of Mexico’s main television networks, released video footage of the situation shortly after the attack on the website. The video shows terrified adults and children. They were wearing swimwear at that time.
The attack happened on the last day of the school’s spring break, AFP said. The attacked swimming resort is located next to a university campus and a large number of military and provincial police attended the site following the attack.
