The trees were illegally electrified to prevent mango theft. Two children went to pick mangoes under that tree on Wednesday afternoon. Two brothers Aryan (8) and Raihan (4) lost their lives due to electric shock while touching the tree.
The incident took place at Ismail Muhuri’s house in Sadhurmath area of Bamail Bank Colony in Demra of the capital. Enraged by this incident, the locals attacked the house.
Meanwhile, Ismail Muhuri’s wife Jahanara Begum (65), her daughter Nipa Akhtar (40), Zera (30) and Sara (20) have been arrested by Demra police station in connection with the death of two children.
Aryan-Raihan’s parents are mad after losing their two children. In front of the emergency department of the Dhaka Medical College (DMH) hospital, the van driver’s father Marfat Mia’s heartbroken cry – ‘What was wrong with my Pola two? According to the police, deceased Ismail Muhuri’s wife and children live in the garden house. His two sons are Dipu Islam and Tipu Islam. They have different fruit trees in their house. So that no one can steal the fruit, they twist the electric wire on the tree. The tree is also surrounded by GI wire. That wire is also electrified.
Marfat Mia, the father of the two children, said that he lives with his wife and two children in Bamail Bank Colony area. His wife Annie Begum is a worker in an umbrella factory. He left in the morning with the van. His wife took two children Arihan and Raihan with her while going to the factory. Annie Begum took them today. At noon, the two children went out to the mango garden of Dipoor’s house in the absence of their mother.
Yasir Arafat, a mason who is a tenant of the house next to Dipur’s house, said that around 1 pm he saw two children lying under the mango tree under the mango tree. Seeing them lying in the undergrowth, he ran. Calling with hands on the body. The people nearby shouted without getting any response. After that, the two brothers were rescued and taken to DMK Hospital where the doctor on duty declared them dead.
Enraged by the death of two children, the locals attacked Dipur’s house. The locals claimed it was murder and demanded the punishment of the owner of the tree.
Local residents said that Dipu and Tipu have electrified the tree and its surroundings for quite some time. Three days ago, two dogs were electrocuted by GI wires. Dipu and his brother Tipu did not take it into account when the local residents informed the house owners about this.
Rabiul Islam, executive engineer of Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited’s Demra branch, said that the electricity line of the house was disconnected based on the complaint of the local residents regarding the death of two children.
Madhusudan Das, Assistant Commissioner of Demra Zone of Police, said that four people are being taken to the police station for questioning in connection with the death of two children. Legal action will be taken against them.
