Dhaka/
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir commented that this government is leading the country towards conflict in a very planned manner.
He made this comment at a meeting organized by the Bangladesh Nationalist Women’s Party to protest the killing of Sultana Jasmine in RAB custody at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Sunday (April 9).
Mirza Fakhrul said, when we stand on the streets to demand constitutional rights fairly in every movement, we are not allowed to stand on the streets. On Saturday, we had programs all over the country, in most places the police stopped them, the Awami League government stopped them. They even smashed the car of our Vice Chairman, who was the Air Force Chief, Altaf Hussain. In this way, they attacked and injured many places.
Alleging that they are attacking every place without provocation, Mirza Fakhrul said, “We announced this program long ago. Accordingly the program is going on. Police Commissioner in Dhaka said that the meeting cannot be held outside Dhaka. Why? There is no law that you will not let me have meetings outside? Is it the tip of the mug or not? We observe that this government is leading the country towards conflict in a very planned manner. They want to create a confrontational situation by attacking and hitting the programs of the opposition parties in a very planned and unprovoked manner.
He said that all the programs we have taken are peaceful and democratic programs. The constitution says I must be given the right to speak. The right to protest should be given. Can not speak against the government, the government is the state?
BNP Secretary General said, If I believe in democracy, I will definitely speak my mind. It’s democracy, I may not agree with you but I will defend freedom of expression with my life. To them (Awami League) democracy is, only I will speak, everything must be done according to my words and be slaves. The people of Bangladesh will not allow that to happen.
Fakhrul said, there is no democracy in our country now. No one has a right here. Such a government; Those who have been occupying power by force for a long time have no regard for the people. People are not a problem for them, so no one is safe there, men and women, Hindus and Muslims, Christians and Jews.
BNP Secretary General said, Sultana Jasmine was not involved in any politics. He is not a criminal but is taken off the streets by the words of a joint secretary. This cannot happen in any civilized, democratic country. A citizen and a public servant, to take him away like this is a violation of the Constitution and totally illegal. Sultana Jasmine was killed because she was picked up and tortured. At least we have no doubt about this.
