The Minister of Education said that the age will be relaxed for children with special needs in terms of admission to educational institutions. Deepu Moni.

He said this while addressing a discussion meeting organized on the occasion of the 16th World Autism Awareness Day at the International Mother Language Institute in the capital on Sunday.

The education minister said that children with special needs were once considered a curse and a burden. But these children have special skills in particular areas. So we should bring out these skills in them. These children can also contribute to our society.

Dipu Moni said such special children’s public examination papers are evaluated differently. Relaxation of their age for admission in educational institutions will also be considered.

Emphasizing on creating awareness about autism, he said, there was not much awareness about autism earlier. There was not much awareness about it all over the world. It was kept secret even from relatives. These children were not given a chance to lead a normal life. But people’s views on them have changed. In this regard, Bangladesh has gained a wide reputation at the international level.

Director General of Secondary and Higher Education Department Prof. Nehal Ahmed chaired the meeting as special guests Secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Department Soleman Khan, CEO of Suchna Foundation Dr. Saki Khandkar. Professor Didarul Alam, project director of National Academy for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (NAND) project also spoke on the occasion.
