Buses Protest Demanding Repeal Of Digital Security Act

Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Basad) staged a protest march and human chain in Barisal demanding the repeal of the Digital Security Act, withdrawal of the case against Prothom Alo editor Matiur Rahman, unconditional release of representative Shamsuzzaman and judicial inquiry into the cause of Sultana Jasmine’s death in Naogaon.
The member secretary of Basad district branch presided over the human chain and rally held in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall on Sadar Road in the city on Saturday afternoon. Manisha Chakraborty. Basad district branch members Santu Mitra and Shahidul Islam, Socialist Labor Front leader Shahed Hossain, Samajtantrik Chhatra Front Barisal Metropolitan branch organizing secretary Sujan Sikder and others spoke.
Speakers in the rally said that there is no democracy in the country even after 52 years of independence. There is no freedom of expression. People’s lives are now threatened by rising commodity prices. But after all this the government looks after their image.
The speakers said that the country’s economy is in crisis due to looting and money laundering. Sultana Jasmine died in RAB custody, but the image of the government is not tarnished due to these reasons. The government is disconnected from the people. So the country is running in a dictatorial manner. Journalists are being arrested under the Digital Security Act.
The speakers demanded immediate release of journalist Shamsuzzaman and withdrawal of case against Prothom Alo editor Matiur Rahman. After the human chain, a protest procession of buses went around the main main roads of the city including Sadar Road and ended at the office on Fakirbari Road.
Meanwhile, at 3 pm on Saturday, a discussion meeting was held under the initiative of Bangladesh Students Federation Barisal District Branch on ‘Students to do at the present time’. Jaber Mohammad, president of the district branch of the student federation, presided over the discussion meeting held at the organization’s Fakirbari Road office. The central president of the organization Moshiur Rahman Khan Richard, District Convener of Mass Solidarity Movement Dewan Abdur Rashid Nilu, Member Secretary Arifur Rahman Miraj, Convener of Barisal University Branch of Student Federation Zaman Kabir and Member Secretary Sanjila Khatun and others participated in the discussion.
Speakers at the meeting expressed their anger over the rising prices of goods, saying that the lower and middle classes are living in tenetun. The government is angry because these news were published in the newspaper. Therefore, Prothom Alo journalist Shamsuzzaman was arrested and a case was filed against editor Matiur Rahman. The speakers demanded immediate release of Shamsuzzaman and withdrawal of the case filed against Prothom Alo editor Matiur Rahman.
