A human chain and protest rally was organized by Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal-Basad Sylhet district branch to demand cancellation of digital security law, withdrawal of case against Prothom Alo editor Matiur Rahman, unconditional release of journalist Shamsuzzaman and trial of Sultana Jasmine murder in Naogaon.

Today Thursday at 4 pm in front of the party office in Ambarkhana under the chairmanship of Basad Sylhet district branch convener Abu Jafar and district member Mamun Bepari conducted the human chain among others who were present and spoke – Shahid Ahmad, Zaheed Ahmad, Shafiqul Islam Kajal, Sanjit Sharma, Jahangir Alam and others.

Basad Sylhet District Convener Abu Zafar said that the way journalist Shamsuzzaman Shams was picked up by the media and social media also defeats the brutality of the Pakistani invasion force. And the most surprising thing is the police commissioner and CID chief’s blatant denial of the abduction. A few days ago, the killing of a man named Abul Kasem by RAB in the name of arresting the accused in civil dress in Sonargaon, the death of a woman land officer named Sultana Jasmine in the custody of RAB after arrest without warrant in Naogaon are the worst examples of state repression. It is the constitutional right of the people to criticize the government. Even though the ruling government has brought forward various excuses of the constitution in various words, they have come to power by trampling all the constitutional rights of the people. People’s lives are disorientated due to the rising prices of rice-fish-meat-eggs. People’s income is decreasing, food consumption is decreasing. Shams highlighted the life of working people in his writings. But the government is not willing to accept even this little criticism. In fact, the government has no ground under its feet, fearing public anger, it does not tolerate even the slightest protest of the people. Brutally suppressing any criticism, protest or dissent has now become routine for the government. People’s voices have been silenced by the Digital Security Act. By using state forces, the government is taking the ultimate undemocratic and fascist path.

Abu Jafar Prothom Alo editor Matiur Rahman demanded the withdrawal of the case against the Digital Security Act, the unconditional release of the journalist Shamsuzzaman Shams, the trial of the murder of Sultana Jasmine and the cancellation of all black laws including the Digital Security Act to prevent this fascist misrule and to uphold the basic human democratic rights of the people including the right to express opinions. He urged the people to build a united Durbar movement. Press release.
