A driver named Al Amin Mia (28) was killed when a truck loaded with sugar overturned in Sadar Upazila of Gaibandha. The helper was seriously injured.

The incident took place at a place called Yogipara on Gaibandha-Nakaihat road of Ramchandrapur union of the upazila at 12:30 pm on Sunday (March 26).

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Masudur Rahman of Gaibandha Sadar Police Station confirmed this information on Monday morning.

Al Amin Mia is the son of Anwar Hossain of Dasyu Narayanpur village of Kapasia upazila in Gazipur.

Quoting locals, the OC said that on Sunday night, when the truck loaded with sugar reached a place called Yogipara in Sadar Upazila, it lost control and fell into the roadside pond. At that time, the locals came and rescued the truck driver Al Amin who was trapped inside the truck. Helper Mahabub Hossain (22) was seriously injured in this accident and was admitted to Gaibandha District Hospital for treatment.

OC Masudur Rahman said that after receiving information on Sunday night, the body was recovered from the scene with the help of fire service. The truck was carrying sugar from Gazipur to Gaibandha.
