The incredible success of the Ministry of Fisheries and Animal Resources’ “Technology Village”
- Asaduzzaman Khairul, Savar (Dhaka)
As the morning sun rose, the field workers of the “Establishment of BLRI Technology Village at Regional Station” project went out to the homes of marginal farmers.
The objective is to modernize all the farmers of a marginal village into successful and sustainable farmers. To create a model village from which the marginal farmers of the neighboring villages of the concerned district will also benefit. The program of the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute under the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock is called “Technology Village” or “Technology Village”.
Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute is transforming Sharif Bagh village of Dhamrai Upazila of Dhaka District into a successful technology village in the first phase in June 2018 under this project. Within a short span of time in June 2022, one village each in five districts of the country has been brought under the technology village. Two to four field workers in each village under three Divisional Field Officers are working tirelessly to implement Technikpalli.
Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute provides all kinds of cooperation to create modern, efficient and successful farmers in technology villages. In addition to various assistance to farmers in animal husbandry, vitamin and deworming, scabies, lumpy skin disease, PPR, Ranikhet, dogpla vaccination programs are ongoing. Also, cows, goats, chickens are provided free of cost and fodder is distributed to farmers to make them self-reliant. Besides, the field workers of Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute train the farmers in animal husbandry and vaccination.
As the number of successful farmers in different districts is increasing, the poor families are becoming farmers to return to prosperity. This initiative taken by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock of the Government of Bangladesh is seen as a beacon of hope by the public and marginal farmers in rural areas. This is what the conscious community thinks.
Sonia Akhtar, a farmer from Dhamrai Sharifbagh village in Dhaka district, Sufle Tehni Palli, started her farm with three free goats on behalf of the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute. He got 20 goats in a span of six months. Besides, he has established himself as a successful farmer with training in fattening goats, making pellet feed and giving vaccines. Under his watch, other poor families in the village are becoming farmers. This is changing the picture of poverty in this village.
Another successful cow farmer, the owner of Arham Agro Farm, Mohsin Mia claims that the farm has been freed from the disease by coming under the vaccination program of the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute.
Farmer Arifur Rahman has been fattening cows in the same village for ten years. He said the beginning was very challenging and scary. When our village came under the technology village of Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute, I was freed from the scary situation of my farm business. Because now I myself am trained in modern methods of cattle fattening, vaccination and animal disease control. This is the result of the groundbreaking steps taken by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock of the present government for the farmers.
Regina Akhter, a sheep farmer of Techni Village, said that seeing other women in the village gradually becoming successful farmers, I have no initiative to raise sheep to be self-sufficient. I dare to see the technology village program of the government. When I told the field officer of BLRI Borhan Bhai about my initiative, he fully supported me. He helped me with small trainings on sheep rearing and medicines for various diseases. Now, by the grace of Allah, my ability has returned.
Tariqul Islam, divisional field assistant of technology village project, said that Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute of Ministry of Fisheries and Water Resources has started activities in six districts of Bangladesh. We have completed the vaccination of 500 cows, 600 goats, 2000 chickens and 300 goats in the technology village of Dhamrai upazila this month. The program is ongoing in other districts.
Another divisional field assistant Borhan Uddin said that we have been able to present a successful technology village to Dhaka district. All the hard work seems worthwhile when I see the success and happiness of the farmer. Meanwhile, farmers and various NGOs from different districts and villages have come to visit our successful technology village Sharifbagh village. Inspired by this, the various successes of Technology Village are spreading to other villages.
In charge of BLRI Technology Village Aid Station Regional Station (Establishment of BLRI Technology Village at Regional Station) project, Chief Scientific Officer of Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute and Divisional Head of Ferning System Research Division Dr. Razia Khatun said, under the direction of the Minister of Fisheries and Livestock, Bangladesh Livestock Research Under the guidance of Director General of the Institute, SM Jahangir Hossain, Ph.D., we have started activities to modernize farmers at the marginal level and make them successful farmers. We have received massive support and encouragement of the masses and marginal farmers in the technology village programme.
