BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that there is an unbearable misery in the country and the state machinery is being used mercilessly to keep people speechless.

He said this in a statement on Thursday. He made this statement calling March 24 as Black Day.

On March 24, 1982, the then army chief Hussain Muhammad Ershad seized power of the country illegally. At that time, the president was Justice Abdus Sattar nominated by BNP and elected by direct vote of the people.

BNP Secretary General said that March 24, 1982 is a black chapter in the history of the country. On this day Ziaur Rahman’s revived multi-party democracy was killed by military decree. All the civil liberties of people including freedom of speech, person, conscience, press, assembly were taken away.

He said that all civil liberties including freedom of speech, individual and expression of people have been completely hijacked in the country. And Khaleda Zia has been detained with the aim of banishing democracy from the country forever. At this time, the BNP Secretary General called for the establishment of a people’s government and the release of Khaleda Zia.
