The Election Commission invited for this discussion and exchange of views through DO letter on Thursday.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir confirmed receiving a letter from the Election Commission. He said, a letter has arrived. But the letter was not seen.
Mirza Fakhrul said on the question whether BNP will go to the discussion on the EC’s invitation, let’s see what is in the letter first, then we can talk about it.
In the letter, the Chief Election Commissioner said, we have been conducting local level elections consistently since assuming office on February 27, 2022. The present commission has been pursuing participatory and competitive parliamentary elections ever since assuming office.
It is said in the letter that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party has been rejecting the current commission by expressing no confidence. You have decided not to hold elections without a caretaker government. However, the commission has no comment on such political decisions and strategies.
CEC said, although rejected by you, the commission thinks that as a large political party, there can be an informal discussion or exchange of views on the upcoming twelfth parliamentary election. I invite you to the Election Commission. Dates can be discussed and fixed if kindly agreed.
