The death toll in Sitakunda oxygen plant explosion has increased to 5 people

Three more people died in an explosion at an oxygen factory in Sitakunda, Chittagong. This brings the death toll to five. At least 15 others were injured in this incident.
The explosion took place in the factory named ‘Seema Oxygen Oxyco Limited’ in Kadmarsul area of Sitakunda upazila around 4:30 pm today. On receiving the information, the members of Kumira Fire Service went to the spot and tried to control the fire and rescue the injured.
Sitakunda Upazila executive officer (UNO) said five people died in the explosion. Shahadat Hossain confirmed.
At least 15 people injured in this incident have been admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Sultan Mahmud, the senior station officer of Kumira Fire Service, said that it is not possible to say how the explosion happened at the moment. They are working to control the fire and rescue the injured.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sitakunda Police Station Tofail Ahmed said that the explosion occurred with a loud noise. Police are assisting in rescue operations.
At least 50 people were killed and more than two hundred people were injured in the explosion at the BM Container Depot, one and a quarter kilometers away from this oxygen plant, on the night of June 4 last year.
