Arjuman Ara Begum, wife of jailed senior joint general secretary of BNP Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, said that Rizvi is an old and physically ill person. He has to walk with a stick. Climbing the stairs requires the help of others. One such person was brought from the Keraniganj Central Jail to the old Dhaka court in a prison van. The same was taken about half past twelve in the afternoon.

He said this to the media on Thursday. He commented that such incidents are inhumane, unconstitutional and cruel behavior and violation of human rights.

Arjuman Ara said, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was very healthy before going to jail. But after going to prison, his illness worsened. Unrecognizable by looking at the face. The skin of the hands and face has become black. A disheveled appearance. In fact, it is difficult to understand whether he is being tortured mentally or not.
He said that Rizvi was brought from Keraniganj jail to CMM Court in Dhaka on Thursday morning in a prison van. I don’t know if there is any seating arrangement in the prison van? But after talking to Rizvi, I learned that he was brought standing in the whole street.

He said, after seeing Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in the court, I could not convince myself. Anyone would be hard pressed to recognize him. Rizvi is physically very weak. He is not well. He needs advanced treatment immediately. We don’t get to know him regularly. Earlier on January 23, Rizvi fell seriously ill in jail.

Rizvi’s wife also said that the doctor was not allowed to meet Rizvi despite the court’s order on February 15. Rizvi was brought to the CMM Court from Keraniganj Central Jail for the appearance of the case that day. After being brought to court that day, he was kept in jail.

Later, wife Arjuman Ara Begum sought permission from the court through her lawyer to meet her husband regarding her physical illness and litigation. The court granted the petition and granted permission for the meeting. Rizvi’s personal physician Rafiqul Islam was also allowed to meet.

Arjuman alleged that the OC of the jail did not allow his wife and personal doctor to meet Rizvi. After being kept in the prison cell for two hours, Rizvi was again taken to Keraniganj prison at 12:30 that day.

Rizvi’s panel lawyer Moshiur Rahman Shanto said, Hajti Ruhul Kabir Rizvi is senior joint secretary general of BNP. He is physically very ill. He is suffering from various diseases including diabetes, high blood pressure, heart. The OC of the jail abused the power by thumbing the court’s order that day.

Rizvi’s wife said that Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was shot in the stomach and seriously injured during the anti-tyranny Ershad movement. Then he underwent abdominal surgery in the country and later abroad. After that, sometimes he had stomach problems. For almost 30 years since then, Rizvi has not eaten with his hands. Do not drink open water.

It is to be noted that on December 10, there was a clash between the party leaders and workers in front of the BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan on December 7 around the BNP’s Dhaka divisional mass meeting. On the same day, more than 450 leaders and activists were arrested in a raid on the central office of BNP. Rizvi was also arrested that day and taken to jail. Recently he was shown arrested in various cases. Before going to jail, he regularly spoke to the media on various party issues. He used to hold regular press conferences especially on various important issues and attack cases.
