Kishoreganj (Nilphamari) Correspondent

In Kishoreganj of Nilphamari, a complaint has been received against the husband and in-laws of a housewife named Liza Moni Akhter (19) for torturing her out of the house for demanding a dowry of Tk 5 lakh. The victim of torture was seriously injured and is undergoing treatment at the Upazila Health Complex. In this incident, the housewife filed a written complaint in the name of five people including her husband Golam Mostafa, father-in-law Ahed Ali, mother-in-law Karima Begum and Nanad Laiju Begum. Lizamni is the daughter of Rashidul Islam of Dhaper Danga village of Dakshin Bherbedi of Putimari Union of Upazila. According to the complaint, last 1 year ago, Lizamni got married to Golam Mostafa (27), son of Ahed Ali of Bala Para village of Nitai Union, Mushrut Panial Pukur. He gave 7 lakh taka in cash to his son-in-law as a dowry. After a few days of marriage, he demanded a dowry of taka 5 lakh and tortured him physically and mentally. Because he could not meet the demand of dowry for the needy father, the family members of the in-laws along with the husband killed him 3 months ago. He beat her and threw her out of the house. She went to her husband’s house last Wednesday (March 1) in the hope of making a family. At that time, he again demanded a dowry of 5 lakh taka, beat her badly, seriously injured her and threw her out of the house. On hearing the news, her father went to the spot. At one point, the matter was tried to be resolved through village arbitration. The National Emergency Service calls 999 when it becomes even more exasperating. Later, the police rescued him from the scene with serious injuries and admitted him to the Upazila Health Complex. The victim Liza Moni said in the complaint that the husband is a hypocrite and a cheater. He had 3 more marriages by concealing the first wife’s name and cheating. I demand exemplary punishment for this hypocrite, cheater, dowry greedy, bigoted husband and in-laws. Thana Police Inspector (Investigation) S M Sharif confirmed the receipt of the complaint and said legal action will be taken subject to investigation.
