Finally it is known – Sylhet drama actress and young girl Sonia Akhter (21) was killed for what reason. The police say – the only accused. Sajib (29) killed Sonia for money. He killed Sonia and robbed her of money. But the police could not recover that money yet. They say – the money has become a few hands. Rescue efforts are underway.

Sonia’s throat-slit body was recovered from Neelima-14 house in Sheikhghat Khuliatula residential area of Sylhet city on February 12th. She is the daughter of Billal Ahmad of Shitalzura village of Jokiganj upazila in Sylhet and a student of Nurjahan Memorial Women’s Degree College in Dakshin Surma. He lived with his mother and stepfather on the 4th floor of that house. Sonia used to act in Sylhet’s regional language dramas and make videos on mobile apps Tiktok and Likei.

According to family and police sources, her cousin Sajib stayed overnight at Soniad’s house before the murder. Sharifnagar village of Ajmiriganj upazila of Sajib Habiganj district. Son of Nuruddin. On the morning of February 12, Sonia’s stepfather Salim Mia was taken to the hospital by other family members. After returning home at 12 noon, the family members went to Sonia’s bedroom and saw her strangled body lying on the bed.

From the beginning, Sonia’s family claimed that Sajib was involved in the murder. The suspicion of the police was also towards Sajib. Since the incident, Sajib’s cover-up has strengthened the suspicion. Family members claimed that cash and gold ornaments were also missing from Sonia’s house.

Meanwhile, after this sensational murder, RAB started investigation along with various law enforcement agencies. At one point, RAB located Sajib with the help of technology and arrested him from Syedabad bus stand area under Jatrabari police station in Dhaka on February 13 around 9:15 pm.

RAB said that Sajib often came to Sonia’s house. Before the murder incident, he stayed at Soniad’s house for 7 days about the treatment of his pregnant wife. The day before the incident (February 11), Sonia went to Biyanibazar with Sajib in search of a job. That day, on their way back from Biyanibazar, they saw Sonia’s sick aunt at Sheikhghat in Sylhet city and returned home around 12 o’clock in the night. On the morning of the incident, Sonia’s stepfather was ill and the family members took him to the hospital. Later, Sonia’s mother returned home from the hospital around 12 noon, entered Sonia’s bedroom and saw her bloody body lying on the bed.

On receiving the information, the police went to the spot and recovered the body. Sonia’s body was found with a deep cut on the left side of her neck and a cut on her right wrist. The police searched and recovered a sharp blood-stained scissor from under the mattress of Sonia’s bed.

Meanwhile, the police sent the arrested Sajib to the court on February 15 and applied for a 7-day remand. Later Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Abdul Momen granted a three-day remand.

A source related to the investigation said that on the first day of remand (February 16), the police went to Soniad’s house with Sajib and recovered bloodstained clothes in a bucket from the place shown by him. The police have sent the clothes to the forensic lab for testing whether there is blood on them.

The source also said that Sajib confessed to the police after being remanded for the first time, but when he was brought to court on February 18, he was not given a statement under Section 164, so the court remanded him for two more days following the request of the police. On February 19, the police remanded him for the second time. When he was taken to court on February 20 after remand, Sajib said that ‘Sonia was killed to get money’. Then the court sent him to jail.

Sylhet Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Ali Mahmud said on Monday (February 27) afternoon – Sajib admitted that he killed Sonia for money. But the money has changed hands, so it has not been recovered yet. But efforts are underway.
