4 killed as passenger bus overturns on Dhaka-Sylhet highway
Jewel Chowdhury, Habiganj Representative/
4 people died when a passenger bus overturned in Baganbari area of Bahubal on Dhaka-Sylhet highway. At least 40 people were injured in this incident. The injured have been admitted to various hospitals in Bahubal, Habiganj and Sylhet.
The Habiganj-Sylhet non-stop express bus (Dhaka Metro B 14-1325) lost control and overturned at around 7 pm on Thursday evening.
Meanwhile, Deputy Assistant Director of Habiganj Fire Service Station Zakaria Haider said that 3 bodies were recovered from the scene. Another person died after being taken to the hospital. However, the identity of the deceased is not known. Hena, Ruby, Ujjal Mia, Salma, Tashlima and Rudra were admitted to Habiganj Sadar Hospital with serious injuries.
However, injured passengers often complain that Habiganj-Sylhet non-stop buses come slowly from Sylhet but come to Habiganj from Bahubal at a reckless speed to cover time. And this is why such accidents are happening constantly. But the authorities have no problem with this. Sometimes drivers talk on mobile phones.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Shaestaganj Highway Police Station Moinul Islam Bhuiyan said that efforts are on to find out the names of the victims. The injured have been sent to different hospitals.
He said that the Dhaka-Sylhet highway was closed for about one and a half hours as the car overturned due to the accident. At around 8:30 pm, the vehicle was removed and road traffic was restored.
