Yarn from banana fiber; women are being trained in Bandarban
Lutfur Rahman (Uzzal): Yarn is being made from banana fiber in Bandarban. Various handicraft products are made with that yarn. In various upazilas and remote areas of Bandarban district under the overall guidance and supervision of Bandarban Deputy Commissioner Yasmin Parvin Tibriji, yarn is being produced for making cloth from the fibers of the banana tree. The training program for weaving cloth is also going on with that yarn. Locals of Bandarban feel that these training programs implemented by the district administration will open new doors for women’s progress. This special program of producing products from banana yarn is the result of the visionary thinking of DC to strengthen the economic empowerment of women which has been appreciated in all circles of Bandarban. As a part of this, the training in the production of handicraft products using banana fiber has been completed in Krau Amtali neighborhood of Kuhlang Union of Bandarban Sadar Upazila. Bandarban Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Md. Fazlur Rahman inaugurated the training program on Monday (February 13). 22 local women participated in this 1 day training. Deputy Director of Women Affairs Department Bandarban office Atia Chowdhury, Bandarban University teacher Sain Sain U Nini, yarn and cloth making instructor Radha Bati Devi, Hemant Kumar Singh were present. Representatives of non-governmental development organization World Vision and representatives of Grouse were also present. Bandarban office of the Directorate of Women Affairs assisted in the training. It should be noted that the first activity of making yarn from banana tree fiber started in this Krau Amtali neighborhood. The initial training program started on December 11, 2021. Later on December 16 of the same year, Deputy Commissioner Yasmin Parvin Tibriji officially inaugurated the production of yarn from banana fibers.
