Saraswati Puja, goddess of learning completed in Shrimangal

Hindu devotees are busy organizing the Puja of Goddess Saraswati in Moulvibazar.

According to Sanatana Shastra, Goddess Saraswati is worshiped every year on the fifth tithi of Magha month. Vidya Devi is adorned with colorful cloths, dresses and ornaments. This year Saraswati Puja will start on Wednesday 25th January/23rd at 6:20:11 pm and will last till Thursday 26th January/23rd at 4:38:53 pm.

According to Hinduism, Saraswati is the goddess of learning. Hindu students worship Goddess Saraswati every year on the fifth tithi of the month of Magh according to the Panjika, hoping to get the blessings of the Goddess. On this occasion, a temporary temple has been built in the houses of Hindus. There is a festive atmosphere among the students especially with the puja celebration in the educational institution in worship of the goddess of learning. Saraswati Puja is organized every time on this special day of Magher with the traditional emotion of Bengalis around giving sakkal sakkal anjali wearing yellow saree and Punjabi pajama.

On Wednesday, visiting different places of the upazila, artists are busy making idols at the last moment by working tirelessly day and night around Saraswati Puja. After the clay work, color work, wearing clothes and ornaments, the idol preparation is almost complete. Puja is also being organized in various educational institutions. Many households are seen spending busy time in collecting the necessary materials for Saraswati puja.
The materials required are Jora Sim, Jora Kul, Avro-Abir, Amer bud, Doat, Khag pen, Milk, Durba, Palash flowers, Books, Musical instruments Basanti colored marigold flower garlands, White cloth, Bel leaves, Raw turmeric, Vermilion, Rice, Paddy. Shisha, five types of fruits, including banana and coconut are essential. There should be pot, drink, betel nut, incense, lamp.

Like every year idols are found in Thanthi A/A, Roopspur, Shapla Bagh area of Srimangal town. Meanwhile, the puja organizers have complained about selling idols of Goddess Saraswati at high prices. However, idol artist Biswanath Pal said, due to the increase in the price of bamboo, wood, color and materials used to make idols, the cost has naturally increased slightly compared to other years. Goddess Saraswati idols are available for a minimum of 1000 taka and around 25000 taka depending on the size and shape.
Moulvibazar Government Primary School Head Teacher’s Association President Zahar Tarafdar said that on the occasion of Saraswati Puja, the work of setting up idols in various temples, ashrams and educational institutions has started. Around 90 government primary schools, 25 secondary schools and 3 colleges have organized Saraswati Puja in Srimangal. Param Jubo Sangh of Tanthi A/A area of upazila has organized puja with the biggest idol this time.
