At midnight, the private car was running from Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to Manikganj via Banani. As soon as it reached Mohakhali flyover, the miscreants tried to rob the vehicle in the identity of RAB. Police arrested three people including RAB member in this incident. This incident happened last Friday night.

Arrested persons are Arian Ahmed Joy (23), Farhad Hossain (22) and RAB member Al Momen (26). Farhad is a rent-a car driver.

Officer-in-charge of Banani police station Noore Azam Mia told the media that RAB member Al Momen is working in RAB-1. He was taken by RAB after his arrest as he will be tried in a military court. He said that the other two arrested will be sent to court today.

Shahidul Islam, the victim, filed a case at the Banani police station on Saturday in connection with the robbery attempt. His village home is in Singair Thana area of Manikganj. He was a Saudi expatriate for 14 years. After returning to the country five months ago, he started a travel agency business in Manikganj.

He said that his friend Tariq landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport from Saudi on Friday at 11 pm. Nephew hired a private car from Manikganj. He came to meet his friend at the airport with Miraj. The driver of the car was accused Farhad Hossain. After meeting, they were returning home in Manikganj in that private car late at night. At around 2:30 a.m., while the private car they were carrying was boarding the Mohakhali flyover, another private car overtook their vehicle on the left. At this time 3-4 people got down from that car and took the driver Farhad to their private car. Later the car left with Farhad. Then three people tried to rob them in the identity of RAB. One of them had a jacket with RAB written on it. Shahidul was threatened with a pistol on his head. They were not letting them get out of the car.

He also said that at this time people gathered by their shouts. At one point, two sat next to Shahidul and his nephew and another one sat on the driver’s seat of the private car and tried to take them away. While returning home through the flyover, a policeman named Shakib also proceeded to shout at them. He wants to see identity cards of people claiming RAB. At this time, the person wearing the RAB jacket showed his ID card. Card did not expire. An attempt was made to take the policeman away in the car. But two people ran away in the face of obstacles from the people present. Arian Ahmed Joy was arrested by the crowd. Meanwhile, a passerby called the National Emergency Service 999. Then Banani police came to the spot. Later, RAB member Al Momen and driver Farhad, who escaped, were arrested based on the information given by Arian.

According to the police, the private car was hired by the miscreants. A toy pistol, a handcuff and a black jacket with RAB written on it were seized from them. At the same time, the private car carried by the plaintiff was also seized. The arrested Aryan’s house is in Dinajpur. He told the police that he works in a garment in Tongi, Gazipur. The other accused Farhad’s house is in Singair of Manikganj.
