Prime Minister calls on teachers to be responsible and attentive

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged university authorities to collect funds through alumni associations for development and welfare work of universities.

He said, “You (the university) increase your own funds through the alumni association (ex-student association) for the development and welfare of the country’s universities.”

The Prime Minister said this in a meeting with the members of the Standing Committee of Bangladesh University Council (BUC) at his official residence Ganabhaban on Thursday.

BUC has been formed with the vice-chancellors of the public universities of Bangladesh. Later, Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary KM Shakhawat Moon gave this information to reporters.

Pointing out that every university has an alumni association, Sheikh Hasina said, through this association, they can collect their own funds for the development of the university and implement development projects for the welfare of students. Emphasizing on maintaining good relationship between teachers and students, he said, besides studies, every student should be made a useful person for the development of the country.

The Prime Minister said that the students of Bangladesh are very talented and if they are given a chance, they can complete their university studies and bring higher degrees from abroad. To this end, he urged the university teachers to be more responsible and attentive to develop students as suitable human resources.

He said, to fulfill the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the universities should make every student a golden boy and girl. The head of government said that university students should be engaged in sports, cultural activities and creative activities in addition to studies; So that they stay away from terrorism and militancy. For this purpose, he urged the concerned authorities to take the initiative to restart the inter-university sports competition.

Mentioning that there was a clanging of weapons in the university at one time, he said, Awami League has stopped the clanging of weapons in the university campus after coming to power, terrorism and militancy in the country has been controlled with an iron hand.

Pointing out that the government has given importance to the development of the skills of the youth, the Prime Minister said that steps have been taken so that the youth can become entrepreneurs and give jobs to others instead of chasing jobs after studying.

He said that whenever Awami League comes to power, the rate and quality of education in the country increases. In this context, he mentioned that his government has given importance to education, research, production and excellence as well as skill development. At the same time, the Prime Minister also said that the government is gradually pulling the country towards industrialization by protecting the balance of the environment.

Sheikh Hasina said that under the guidance of her information and communication technology advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the government has developed Digital Bangladesh. He said, Joy Young Bangla and CRIA are encouraging the young generation to be self-reliant. The Prime Minister expressed his determination to build a developed, prosperous and smart Bangladesh in 2041 by maintaining the continuity of the country’s development.

In the event, the vice-chancellors of various public universities highlighted the various problems of their respective universities and the Prime Minister assured to solve these problems in phases.
