India beat Sri Lanka by a huge margin of 317 runs and set a world record. This is the record for the highest number of runs scored in ODI cricket. In 2015, Australia scored 417 runs to win by 275 runs against Afghanistan. In 2010, South Africa won by 272 runs by 399 runs against Zimbabwe. On Sunday (January 15), hosts India won the toss against Sri Lanka at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, batting first and building a mountain of 390 runs for the loss of 5 wickets.

In pursuit of the target, the speed of Mohammad Siraj and Mohammad Shami and the spin of Kuldeep Yadav confused Sri Lanka and were all out for just 73 runs in 22 overs. Siraj took 4 wickets for India. Shami and Kuldeep took two wickets each.
