Pickup-autorickshaw head-on collision in South Surma, 2 killed

Two people died in a head-on collision between a pickup and a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw in Sylhet’s South Surma. The accident took place in the Galimpur area of the bypass road in Dakshin Sumra around 11 o’clock today.

Among the two deceased, one was a CNG autorickshaw driver and the other was a passenger in an autocar.

The deceased are autorickshaw driver Taher Mia (25), son of Chan Mia of Dharmandal village of Nasirnagar police station, Brahmanbaria district, and Abdul Latif (42), son of Firoz Ali of Kaistghat village of Balaganj upazila, Sylhet, and autorickshaw driver.

It is reported that the autorickshaw driver and passengers were seriously injured in a head-on collision between a pickup and a CNG-powered autorickshaw at that place around 11 o’clock on Friday. They were rescued and taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared autorickshaw driver Taher dead. After some time, the passenger of the autorickshaw, Latif, also died.
Meanwhile, autorickshaw workers blocked the road from South Surma’s Chandipool to Humayun Rashid Chatter after receiving reports of the autorickshaw driver’s death while the police released the pickup and its driver after the accident. After about an hour and a half, the workers lifted the blockade when the police promised to arrest the pickup driver.

Inspector (Investigation) of South Surma Police Station Suman Kumar Chowdhury has confirmed the authenticity of this.
