A mother and daughter died on the spot after being hit by a train in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat. 4 hours after the incident, the boy also died while undergoing treatment. The accident took place on the railway line of Dorjitari area of Lalmonirhat-Burimari union around 10:30 am on Friday.

The deceased were Rasheduzzaman’s wife Sumi Begum and her daughter Tasmira Tabassum Tasin and son Touhid Hasan of Chilarbazar Pikartari village of Patgram Union.

Police and locals said that Sumi Begum jumped under the train with her 2 children when the train going from Lalmonirhat to Burimari was crossing Beltuli Ghunti area. At that time, 3-year-old child Tauhid was knocked down by the train. But the mother and 6-year-old daughter were killed on the spot by the train.

Locals rescued the seriously injured child and first admitted him to Patgram Upazila Health Complex. Later, when his condition worsened, he was sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. The child died at around 2.30 pm while undergoing treatment there.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Patgram Police Station Omar Farooq said, ‘There is no definite information yet as to why Sumi Begum jumped under the train with her children. The police have started working to uncover the information.

Ferdous Ali, OC of Lalmonirhat Railway Police Station said, ‘The body will be handed over to the family after the legal process. Along with Patgram Thana Police, Railway Thana Police are also working to unravel the mystery of the incident.
