People of Harijan community staged an hour-long sit-in with brooms to demand the cancellation of the recruitment of cleaners of Gunabhari High School in Phulchari Upazila of Gaibandha. The program was held in front of the school gate on Thursday (January 12) at noon.

The program was organized by the leaders of Bangladesh Basfour (Harijan) Kalyan Parishad Gaibandha District Committee.

Gaibandha district president of Bangladesh Basfour (Harijan) Kalyan Parishad Santosh Basfour, convener of Harijan Jubo Oikya Parishad central committee Rajesh Basfour, general secretary of Phulchhari Upazila Harijan Kalyan Parishad Chandan Basfour, organizing secretary Sajan Basfour, Harijan leader Ujjal Basfour, Udakhali Puja celebration committee spoke on the occasion. President Rana Basfor etc.

Speakers said that since the post of a cleaner is vacant in Gunabhari High School, Pushpa Kumar of that area has been working without pay for 10 years in the hope of getting a job in Basfor. But the headmaster of the school, Matlubar Rahman Bulu, and the president of the managing committee, Majnur Rashid, demanded Tk. 3.5 lakh from Pushpa Kumar Basfor for the appointment of cleaners. Pushpa Kumar paid Tk 2 lakh in advance. But despite that, the headmaster and the president colluded and secretly hired the son of the night guard of that school in exchange of a huge sum of money. As per rules, a person from Harijan community should be employed as a cleaner. So the speakers demanded to cancel the said appointment and appoint Pushpa Kumar Basfour to that post.

In this regard, Gunabhari High School Headmaster Matlubar Rahman Bulu said that cleaners have been appointed as per the rules. No irregularity has been done here.
