The Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) has demanded the resignation of the government, dissolution of parliament and reform of the electoral system for national elections under a non-partisan oversight government. The leaders said that citizens should stand against any plot of administrative manipulation in the upcoming elections by ignoring public opinion. A mass struggle must be built to demand voting rights, price reduction, return of money laundering and elimination of discrimination and corruption.
The leaders said these things at the CPB protest rally at Paltan intersection in the capital on Thursday. The rally was organized on the first day of the CPB-announced January 12-18 nationwide ‘Protest Week’.
Party General Secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince, Dhaka South General Secretary Jolly Talukder, Dhaka North General Secretary Luna Noor addressed the rally under the chairmanship of CPB President Mohammad Shah Alam. Conducted by CPB Deputy General Secretary Mihir Ghosh.
Mohammad Shah Alam said that even if the income of the common people does not increase, the prices of daily necessities including food products and medicines are skyrocketing. The price of electricity is being increased once again due to increase in production cost. However, if corruption, mismanagement and wastage can be eliminated, the price of electricity could be reduced without increasing.
Ruhin Hossain Prince said corruption and looters have become reckless in the country’s undemocratic environment. The festival of bribery and corruption is going on everywhere. Money launderers and defaulters remain untouchable. Communal evil is on the rise. Price control and rationing, fair price shops and public distribution system should be introduced to save people.
At the end of the rally, a procession goes around the various streets of the city.
