Law Minister Advocate Anisul Haque said that the government has taken the initiative to enact a law for the appointment of Supreme Court and High Court judges.

The Law Minister said this during his speech after the opposition party members’ scrutiny on the Bangladesh Supreme Court Judges (Leave, Pension and Privileges) Bill, 2022 in the National Parliament session on Monday (January 9). The law minister presented this bill to the parliament for passage. Speaker at this time. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the session.

During the discussion on the bill, member of the public forum Mokabbir Khan and member of the opposition party Jatiya Party Pir Fazlur Rahman demanded to enact a law on the appointment of court judges.

After this, during the speech on the bill, the law minister said that the members of parliament have asked to make a law regarding the appointment of Supreme Court and High Court judges. I can assure them that we are working on this law. I can bring it to Parliament in a few days. Apart from that, they are thinking about the Independent Prosecution Appointment Act. They will also see this law during the course of this parliament.

Meanwhile, Law Minister Advocate Anisul Haque said that the government has taken steps to reduce the entanglement of court cases and that the entanglement is decreasing.

The Law Minister said, what they (Opposition members) said is correct that Mamra is involved. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government has also taken steps to reduce the tangle of cases. I can proudly say that the tangle of cases is decreasing.

Mokabbir Khan, a member of the public forum, said that people’s distrust has increased due to the increase in commodity prices. The war between Ukraine and Russia and the failure of the government mean that commodity prices have become low for people. Government employees are demanding new pay scales. They can’t move. Of course, those who do politics are different. In this situation, if this law is passed, there will be an increase in public administration. This needs further testing.

Jatiya Party member Pir Fazlur Rahman said that a law has been made to form the Election Commission (EC). There was supposed to be a law for the appointment of High Court Judges. But it didn’t. The law was supposed to be passed on the appointment of the prosecution and that was not done. I hope the law minister will take initiative in this regard.
