A 15 percent hike in electricity prices is recommended at the consumer level

The Technical Appraisal Committee formed by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has recommended a 15 percent hike in electricity prices at the consumer level.
Three responsible officers of BERC confirmed the matter and said that the report of the evaluation committee will be presented in the hearing on Sunday. If it does not end on Sunday, the hearing will continue on Monday. After evaluating everything, BERC will announce the order on electricity prices within 60 working days.
The hearing will start from Sunday morning at Shahid AKM Shamsul Haque Khan Auditorium of Beam Foundation in the capital and will continue till the afternoon.
BERC member (electricity) Bazlur Rahman told the media that the term of the current commission will expire next month. So after the hearing, not much time will be taken. The order will be announced on the price of electricity within this month.
The electricity price was last increased on February 27, 2020 at the consumer level. The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) increased the wholesale price of electricity by 19.92 percent on November 21. After that, five companies requested to increase the retail price of electricity.
