In the Asia Cup, two arch-rivals, India and Pakistan, have again fallen into the same group. On the other hand, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are in Bangladesh’s group. Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Jai Shah confirmed this on Thursday (December 5).
The tournament is scheduled to be held in September 2023. However, it has not been clarified where the Asia Cup will be held.
The last Asia Cup was held in T20 format. As T20 World Cup is ahead, the event was held in that format in accordance with it. This season will be in ODI format. Because there is ODI World Cup in 2023.
The cricket calendar for 2023 and 2024 was released on Thursday. According to that calendar, the 50-over Asia Cup is going to be held next September, right before the World Cup.
There are a total of 6 teams in the Asia Cup. Group A consists of India, Pakistan and a team that has qualified. Group ‘B’ has Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.
In other words, after meeting twice in the last Asia Cup, India and Pakistan may fight at least twice this time.
Although this year’s Asia Cup is scheduled to be held in Pakistan, Jai Shah said a few months ago that the tournament will be held at a neutral venue. But in which venue it is not clear yet.
