Shaistaganj Municipality has not shifted to its own building even in 25 years. The activities are going on in tandem. Since the establishment of A Grade A municipality on March 25, 1998, the activities of the municipality have been going on in the upazila BADC Fertilizer Warehouse. It was later upgraded to Class ‘B’ on 13 September 2005 and Class ‘A’ on 12 March 2013. Its area is 14.63 square kilometers. Ward number is 9. The population is 17 thousand 961 people.
The current mayor FM Ahmed Ali is the president of BNP Shaistaganj municipal branch. When asked about the development activities of the municipality, the mayor told CNBangladesh that the development activities did not stop even after assuming responsibility during the Corona period. Every ward is illuminated with street lights. However, there are reports of people in 9 wards. So the people of the city elected the mayor for the fourth time with confidence. Therefore, the promise of the elected mayor will fulfill the trust of the city residents through development. By 2025, the face of urban cities will change. There are three markets in the municipality. Puran Bazar, Dawood Nagar Bazar and Aliganj Driver Bazar. Thousands of people come here to buy and sell products and animals every day. But due to lack of own building, municipal activities are being run with difficulty.
Local residents said that almost a century and a half after the establishment of the municipality and because the ‘A’ grade municipality does not have its own building, proper civic services are not being ensured. For a long time, the demand for the municipal building is not being implemented. The mayor also said that a place is being sought for the municipal building. Besides, efforts are being made to improve the quality of life of the municipal citizens.
