President Md. Abdul Hamid said, ‘Another success of the people-friendly government has been achieved through the inauguration of the Metrorail. The journey of Metrorail will add a different dimension and speed to the transport system of Dhaka metropolis. The working hours of the city dwellers will be saved.

In a statement given on the occasion of the inauguration of Bangladesh’s first Metrorail tomorrow, December 28, the President said, “The auspicious inauguration of Bangladesh’s first Metrorail ‘Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line-6’ from Uttara to Agargaon is a unique milestone in the development of the country’s communication system.”

The President extended his sincere greetings and congratulations to all involved in the implementation of the project including the Road Transport and Highways Department and said, ‘Introduction of fast, safe, reliable, air-conditioned, time-saving, electric, environment-friendly and remote-controlled state-of-the-art public transport system to relieve traffic congestion in the richly populated metropolis of Dhaka and neighboring districts. A timely initiative by the government.’

The President said, “Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) under the purview of Road Transport and Highways Department is implementing the time-bound action plan 2030 for the construction, operation and maintenance of Dhaka Metrorail comprising six metro rail lines. If the project is fully implemented, there will be a revolutionary change in the communication system of the country.

The President also said, “The father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working tirelessly to realize his dream. Under his visionary and efficient leadership, the country is moving forward in the implementation of ‘Vision 2041’. As a result of the prudence, right direction and courageous leadership of the government, the smooth construction of metro rail has become possible in the densely populated Dhaka metropolis. The inauguration of MRT Line-6 or Bangladesh’s first metro rail section from Uttara (North) to Agargaon ahead of schedule is a result of the combined efforts of the government, Dhaka Metropolitan residents and stakeholders, overcoming many hurdles and the damaging effects of the novel coronavirus pandemic and the global economic recession.”

The President expressed optimism and said, “Through the launch of Metrorail, there will be positive changes in the communication and socio-economic system of Dhaka city and the country.” It will be beneficial in business and especially in investment.

The President said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s unique gift to the nation is the auspicious inauguration of the metro rail section from Uttara to Agargaon in the month of Vijaya.” He expected that the entire section of the first metro rail of Bangladesh from Uttara to Kamalapur would be implemented within the stipulated time.
