Joint general secretary of Habiganj Press Club and former vice-president of Habiganj District Chhatra League journalist Pabel Khan Chowdhury and mother of district Chhatra Dal leader Rumel Khan Syeda Ferdous Jahan passed away (Inna…Rajiun). On the night of December 16, he suffered a heart attack while sleeping. After being taken to North East Medical College Hospital in Sylhet, he died at 1:20 PM last Monday while undergoing treatment in CCU. He was 68 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by numerous relatives and benefactors including three sons and one daughter. He was buried in the family cemetery after his 1st funeral prayer in the morning at the staff quarters ground of the city and the 2nd funeral prayer in the afternoon at Shatamukha village of Sujatpur Union of Baniachong.

Meanwhile, former Mayor of Habiganj GK Gauch, Vice Chairman of Habiganj Sadar Upazila Parishad Abdul Awal, former President of Habiganj Press Club Fazlur Rahman, Councilor of Habiganj Municipality Shafiqur Rahman Situ etc. spoke in memory of the deceased and comforting the family members.

Former President of Habiganj Press Club Mohammad Nahij, former General Secretary Syed Ekhlachur Rahman Khokon, Sayeduzzaman Zahir, convener of Habiganj Town Jubo League Dr. Ishitak Raj Chowdhury, General Secretary of Habiganj Business Welfare Association Mohammad Alamgir and others.

Media workers of print and electronic media of Habiganj, leaders of various political parties, socio-cultural leaders were present in the funeral prayers.

Prayers and prayers were held at the Maktab ground of Shatamukha village of Sujatpur union of Baniachong upazila. Habiganj Press Club President Rasel Chowdhury, General Secretary Rashed Ahmed Khan, Former President Fariad Chowdhury, District Volunteer League General Secretary Mustafa Kamal Azad Russell, District Jubo Dal Joint General Secretary Advocate Gulzar Ahmed Khan and other dignitaries of the area spoke before the prayer. Journalist Pabel Khan Chowdhury spoke on behalf of the family in both prayers and funerals. Then Syeda Ferdous Jahan was buried next to her husband’s grave in the family cemetery.

Apart from this, the learned court granted one day bail on Tuesday when lawyer Gulzar Khan applied for bail on behalf of deceased’s son District Chhatra Dal leader Rumel Khan in a political case. After getting bail, he participated in his mother’s burial.

It is to be noted that Syeda Ferdous Jahan is the daughter of Syed Sirajul Haque of Fakirbari in Madhupur of Bahubal upazila and wife of late Abdul Mukit Chowdhury of the noble family of Shatamukha village of Baniachang upazila.

His death has been mourned by various circles, including the journalist community.
